Main Idea: God calls His people to obedience. (1 Samuel 3)

Summary
Hannah, barren and ridiculed by her rival, prays fervently for a son and vows to dedicate him to God's service, resulting in the birth of Samuel, whom she faithfully presents to serve under the priest, Eli. While Samuel grows in favor with both God and people, Eli's sons abuse their priestly office, prompting God to pronounce judgment against Eli's household for his failure to parent and teach them. In chapter 3, God calls to Samuel 3 times. Upon the third call, Samuel responds with, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” God then gives Samuel his first prophetic message.
