Main Idea: David Showed Mercy (1 Samuel 24)

Summary
  • One day, Saul went into a cave. He did not see David hiding in the cave.
  • David’s friends wanted him to hurt Saul, but David cut off a piece of Saul’s clothing instead.
  • David said, “I could have hurt you, but I didn’t.”
  • Saul said, “You are better than me. I know you will be the next king of Israel.”

Main Idea: David Showed Mercy (1 Samuel 24)

Summary 
King Saul became jealous of David and wanted to kill him. While Saul was looking for David, he went in a cave where David and his friends were hiding. David showed mercy and did not hurt Saul. David said that only God could decide what is right.

Summary
In 1 Samuel 24, David has the perfect opportunity to kill King Saul when Saul enters a cave where David and his men are hiding, but instead David secretly cuts off a piece of Saul's robe. When Saul leaves, David reveals himself and shows the robe piece as proof that he could have killed Saul but chose not to, declaring that he won't harm God's anointed king. Saul is moved to tears, acknowledges David's righteousness, and asks David to promise not to destroy his family line when David becomes king.

Summary
