Scripture: 2 Samuel 11-12
Because Life Groups did not meet this week, we encourage you to gather as a family to read the Scripture passages and discuss the Review Questions together. This allows you to stay on track with the material while creating a meaningful opportunity to explore God's Word with your family. For those with children, it's also a great way to demonstrate the importance of Scripture in our daily lives. We're praying for your family as you study God's Word together.

Main Idea: Allowing sinful desires to take root leads to devastation. (2 Samuel 11-12)

Summary
David saw a beautiful woman named Bathsheba bathing and had an affair with her, even though she was married to one of his soldiers named Uriah. When Bathsheba became pregnant, David tried to cover up his sin by having Uriah killed in battle. God sent the prophet Nathan to confront David about his wrongdoing, and David realized how terrible his actions were and repented.

Review Questions
  1. What does David’s downfall reveal to us about sin that we let take root in our lives?
  2. When David realized he had done something wrong, he tried to hide it by making even worse choices. Why do you think people sometimes make their problems bigger when they try to cover up their mistakes instead of being honest right away?

Adults

Main Idea: God desires our repentance. (2 Samuel 11-12)

Summary
This passage reveals David's moral failure through his abuse of royal power—committing adultery with Bathsheba, attempting to manipulate her husband Uriah into unknowingly covering for the pregnancy, and ultimately orchestrating Uriah's death in battle to conceal his sin. The coverup ends when the prophet Nathan confronts David through a parable about a rich man who steals a poor man's beloved lamb, leading David to pronounce judgment on himself before recognizing his guilt. Despite David's genuine repentance, the consequences prove irreversible—David’s child dies, and Nathan prophesies that violence will plague David's house, demonstrating that while God forgives, the natural consequences of sin often remain.

Review Questions
  1. How can being involved in sin blind us from the truth?
  2. How can we combat the impulse to want to hide our sin, and instead, confess it the Lord and other trusted Believers who can help keep us accountable and repent?
