Main Points:
- Our Advocate: Jesus defends us before the Father, not by denying our guilt but by presenting His finished work on the cross.
- Our Assurance: Obedience to God’s Word and love for others demonstrate that our faith is real.
- Our Affinity: As members of God’s family, we grow through forgiveness, spiritual maturity, and perseverance in His Word.
Discussion Questions:
For Kids
- What does it mean that Jesus is our Advocate?
- How can we show God’s love to others this week?
- What does it look like to “walk as Jesus walked”?
For Students & Adults
- How does knowing Jesus as your Advocate change the way you view your sin?
- What are some ways obedience and love reveal authentic faith?
- Where do you see evidence of spiritual growth in your life right now?
Application: Take time this week to thank Jesus for being your Advocate and for the forgiveness He offers. Ask God to strengthen your love for others and help you walk daily in obedience to His Word.
Life Group
Scripture: 2 Kings 2; 4-5
Christ/Gospel Connections:
All of Scripture points back to Jesus. In our study each week, every age group’s lesson includes a note about how the message connects to Christ. Use these Christ/Gospel Connections as a springboard for meaningful discussion about who Jesus is and what He has done for us.
Preschool – Elisha was a man of God who did miracles. Jesus came and performed miracles. Jesus died and came back to life to save sinners so we can have God’s Spirit and life with God forever.
Kids – Elisha spoke the truth of God and performed miracles. Jesus taught with the authority of God and performed miracles as well. Elisha was a prophet, but Jesus is the Son of God, our Savior.
Students – Before Christ ascended into heaven, He commissioned the disciples to take the gospel to the ends of the earth, and He promised to be with them–and us–until he very end of the age (Matthew 28:16-20). We carry the gospel everywhere we go with the power of the Holy Spirit living within us.
Adults – Because God has power to bring the dead to life, He was able to give His Son, Jesus, as a sacrifice, knowing He would be resurrected to defeat sin and death for the salvation of all who believe in Him.
