Faith Talk – October 4, 2026

Faith Talks are designed to help you keep the conversation going beyond Sunday morning. Use this guide with your family or friends to reflect on the sermon and Life Group lesson, pray together, and put God’s Word into practice. Think of this guide as a starting place—then let God shape the conversation.

Sermon

Title: Seek First

Scripture: Matthew 6:25-34

Overview: In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches His followers to see life through the lens of God’s kingdom. Our heavenly Father knows what we need. The birds He feeds and the flowers He clothes remind us of His care. Jesus calls us to seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness first. That means recognizing God as King, obeying His commands, living to please Him, and sharing the good news of Jesus. As we entrust our needs and tomorrow’s uncertainties to Him, we can take the next step of obedience today.

Main Points:
  1. The Kingdom of God is about God.
  2. The Kingdom of God is about walking in obedience to God’s commands.
  3. The Kingdom of God is about living a life to please Him and not yourself.
  4. The Kingdom of God is about spreading His name.

Discussion Questions:
For Kids
  • Jesus said God feeds the birds and clothes the flowers. What does that teach you about how God cares for you?
  • What is something you worry about that you can talk to God about?
  • What is one choice you can make this week that puts Jesus first?

For Students & Adults
  • What most often captures your attention or shapes your decisions? What does that reveal about your priorities?
  • Pastor Steven described seeking God’s kingdom as recognizing God as King, obeying Him, pleasing Him, and sharing His name. Which of these needs more attention in your life?
  • What concern or plan do you keep trying to control? What would trusting God and taking a faithful next step look like?

Application: Identify one concern you are carrying and one area where you need to obey Jesus. Bring both to God in prayer. Then choose a specific action you can take this week, such as making time for Scripture, turning from a sinful habit, helping someone in need, or sharing your faith. When worry returns, let it prompt you to bring your concern to the Father again. You can seek Him even while you are still struggling.

Life Group

Scripture: Matthew 14; Mark 6; Luke 9; John 6

Christ/Gospel Connections:
All of Scripture points back to Jesus. In our study each week, every age group’s lesson includes a note about how the message connects to Christ. Use these Christ/Gospel Connections as a springboard for meaningful discussion about who Jesus is and what He has done for us.

Preschool – Jesus fed thousands with just a little food to show He is God’s Son. Jesus is the Bread of Life. He gives us everything we need, including forgiveness of sin and life with God forever.

Kids – Jesus miraculously fed thousands of people with five loaves and two fish. This miracle showed that He is God’s Son. Jesus is the Bread of Life. He meets our greatest need-not just food, but for forgiveness and eternal life with God.

Students – When the Israelites were hungry in the wilderness, God provided manna from heaven. Jesus is the greater Moses, the one who not only provides bread from heaven but who also speaks of Himself as the Bread who gives life to the world.

Adults – Jesus is a provider, providing salvation from sin and death.

Discussion Questions:
For Kids
  • What did Jesus do with the five loaves and two fish?
  • What does this miracle teach us about Jesus’ power and His care for people?
  • Jesus gives us forgiveness and life with God. Why do we need those gifts even more than we need food?

For Students & Adults
  • Compare the disciples’ response to the hungry crowd with Jesus’ response. What can we learn from His compassion?
  • When have you focused more on what you lacked than on what Jesus could do? How does this passage challenge that perspective?
  • How does Jesus meet our greatest need through the gospel, and how can that truth shape the way we respond to our everyday needs?

Pray Together

  • Thank God for knowing your needs, caring for you, and providing forgiveness and eternal life through Jesus.
  • Commit to seeking His kingdom first. Name one priority, habit, or plan you need to surrender to His leadership.
  • Ask God to help you trust His care, obey His Word, and recognize opportunities to meet others’ needs.

Activity

Supplies:

  • Paper
  • Pens, pencils, or crayons
  • A bowl or basket
  • A Bible

Instructions:
  • Read Matthew 6:33 and Matthew 14:19-20 together.
  • Give each person two pieces of paper. On the first, write or draw a need or concern. On the second, write or draw one way to seek God’s kingdom this week.
  • Let each person share as they feel comfortable. Discuss how Jesus’ care for the crowd helps us trust Him with our own needs.
  • Place the papers with your needs in the bowl or basket. Pray together, bringing each concern to God.
  • Keep the papers with your next steps somewhere visible. During the week, check in with one another about putting those steps into practice.

Remember: Our Father knows what we need. We can trust His care and seek His kingdom today.
