Faith Talk – October 18, 2026

Faith Talks are designed to help you keep the conversation going beyond Sunday morning. Use this guide with your family or friends to reflect on the sermon and Life Group lesson, pray together, and put God’s Word into practice. Think of this guide as a starting place—then let God shape the conversation.

Sermon

Title: A Divine Encounter with God

Scripture: Isaiah 6:1-8

Overview: Isaiah saw the Lord seated on His throne, surrounded by praise declaring His holiness. In God’s presence, Isaiah recognized his own sin and his need for cleansing. God graciously provided that cleansing, and Isaiah responded to His call with a willingness to go. This encounter reminds us that worship involves more than recognizing who God is. It also leads us to confess our sin, receive His forgiveness, and offer ourselves in obedience.

Main Points:
  • A Personal Encounter with God
  • A Proper Evaluation of Ourselves
  • A Predictable Expectation from God

Discussion Questions:
For Kids
  • Isaiah saw that God is holy, which means He is completely perfect and without sin. What are some things you can praise God for?
  • Isaiah admitted his sin, and God cleansed him. What should you do when you know you’ve done something wrong?
  • Isaiah was willing to go where God sent him. How can you be ready to obey God at home, at school, or with your friends?

For Students & Adults
  • How did seeing God’s holiness change the way Isaiah saw himself? How does spending time in God’s Word help us see ourselves more honestly?
  • Isaiah confessed his sin and received cleansing from God. What makes confession difficult, and how does trusting God’s mercy help us come to Him honestly?
  • Isaiah responded to God’s call before knowing all the details. Where might God be calling you to obey, and what step can you take this week?

Application: Set aside time this week to read Isaiah 6:1-8 slowly. Praise God for who He is, honestly confess any sin He brings to your attention, and thank Him for forgiveness through Jesus. Then consider where you need to say, “Here I am. Send me.” Choose one specific step of obedience, whether that means serving someone, sharing your faith, or following through on something God’s Word has already made clear.

Life Group

Scripture: Matthew 15; Mark 7

Christ/Gospel Connections:
All of Scripture points back to Jesus. In our study each week, every age group’s lesson includes a note about how the message connects to Christ. Use these Christ/Gospel Connections as a springboard for meaningful discussion about who Jesus is and what He has done for us.

Preschool – Jesus has power over sickness and healed many people to show He is God’s Son. Jesus also has power over sin and came to bring forgiveness, life, and hope to everyone who believes in Him.

Kids – Jesus has power over sickness and healed many people to show He is God’s Son. Jesus also has power over sin and came to bring forgiveness, life, and hope to everyone who believes in Him.

Students – Jesus showed His authority over the demonic spirit that tormented the Gentile girl, but this miracle only pointed to the truth that all evil will one day be defeated with Jesus’s second coming at the end of the age. Believers can walk in hope, trusting by faith that this victory will come.

Adults – Jesus ushered in a kingdom that would fix what was broken by sin, including illnesses, diseases, and disabilities. He healed both Jew and Gentile in His earthly ministry, which pointed to His death and resurrection that bring salvation to all who believe.

Discussion Questions:
For Kids
  • What did the mother ask Jesus to do for her daughter? What did Jesus do for the man who could not hear?
  • What do these miracles teach us about Jesus’s power and His care for people?
  • Who needs your kindness this week? How can you show that person the love of Jesus?

For Students & Adults
  • What do the mother’s persistence and trust teach you about bringing your needs to Jesus?
  • Jesus showed compassion to people from different backgrounds. What assumptions or barriers might keep us from extending that same care to others?
  • These miracles give us a glimpse of Jesus’s power over everything broken by sin. How does His promised final victory help you trust Him while you wait for answers or face suffering?

Pray Together

  • Thank God for His holiness, His mercy, and the forgiveness He provides through Jesus.
  • Commit to confessing your sin honestly and responding willingly when God calls you to obey.
  • Ask God to help you see others with His compassion and give you courage to share the hope of Jesus.
