Faith Talk – November 8 2026

Faith Talks are designed to help you keep the conversation going beyond Sunday morning. Use this guide with your family or friends to reflect on the sermon and Life Group lesson, pray together, and put God’s Word into practice. Think of this guide as a starting place—then let God shape the conversation.

Sermon

Title: When Nothing Seems to Satisfy

Scripture: Ecclesiastes 1

Overview: Ecclesiastes opens with a question about what we gain from all our work. The Teacher looks at the world around him and notices how much repeats. The sun rises and sets, rivers keep flowing, and one generation follows another. Even with all his wisdom, he feels the weight of questions he can’t resolve. His observations invite us to consider where we look for lasting satisfaction.

Main Points:
  • The Author
  • The Anguish
  • The Application

Discussion Questions:
For Kids
  • What are some things the Teacher sees happening over and over again?
  • Have you ever wanted something badly and then gotten tired of it? What happened?
  • What’s one good thing you can thank God for today, even if there’s something else you still wish you had?

For Students & Adults
  • What do the images of the sun, wind, and rivers add to the Teacher’s question about what we gain from our work?
  • Where do you find yourself thinking, “Once I get there, I’ll be satisfied”? What are you hoping will change?
  • How does remembering that your time is limited shape what you want to give your attention to this week?

Life Group

Scripture: Luke 19

Christ/Gospel Connections:
All of Scripture points back to Jesus. In our study each week, every age group’s lesson includes a note about how the message connects to Christ. Use these Christ/Gospel Connections as a springboard for meaningful discussion about who Jesus is and what He has done for us.

Preschool – We are all sinners and need to be saved from our sins. Jesus came to save sinners. He died on the cross and rose again so we can be forgiven when we turn from our sin and trust in Him

Kids – We are all sinners, but Jesus came to seek and save us, too. He died on the cross and rose again so we can be forgiven and have eternal life when we turn from our sin and trust in Him.

Students – Just as Jesus saw Zacchaeus, He sees each of us. He calls us out of our sin and into a life of faithful obedience.

Adults – Jesus’s ministry and mission was to bring salvation to those who are lost and looking to be found.

Discussion Questions:
For Kids
  • Why did Zacchaeus climb a tree? What did Jesus say when He saw him?
  • How did Zacchaeus respond when Jesus said He was coming to his house? What did Zacchaeus decide to do with his money?
  • If you’ve taken something or treated someone unfairly, what could you do to make it right?

For Students & Adults
  • How did Jesus respond to Zacchaeus, and how did the crowd respond? What does that difference show you about Jesus’ mission?
  • What do Zacchaeus’s promises to give and repay reveal about what changed for him?
  • Where could following Jesus change how you use what you have or how you respond to someone you’ve wronged?

Pray Together

  • Thank God for the good gifts He gives and for sending Jesus to seek and save the lost.
  • Commit to bringing your desires to God and obeying Jesus in one specific way this week.
  • Ask God to show you where you’re looking for lasting satisfaction and help you trust Him with what you want.

Activity

Have each person name something they’re glad to have, such as a favorite toy, a skill, or some free time. Choose one of those gifts and use it to care for someone this week. You might invite a friend to play, make a card for someone who’s lonely, or spend an afternoon helping a neighbor. Afterward, talk about what you noticed when you shared something you enjoy.
