Main Idea: Abraham Followed God (Genesis 11-13)

Summary
  • God told Abram to go to Canaan. God promised to bless him and make him into a great nation.
  • Lot and Abram's livestock could not both live off the land. Abram told Lot to choose which land to live in.
  • God promised to give Abram more descendants than he could count.

Review Questions
  1. Why is God's promise to Abram important?
  2. What promises has God made to us?

Students

Main Idea: Authentic faith will lead us to obey, resulting in God’s blessing. (Genesis 12, 15)

Summary
God’s calling of Abram was unusual because most people don’t leave the lives they’ve always known, surrounded by the people they’ve grown up with, to follow a God no one likely knew. But Abram was confident in what God was calling him and his family to do. No matter what God calls you to do, you can trust Him. God will never lead you to a place where He won’t go with you.

Review Questions
  1. From Life Group Discussion: Did Abram do anything to earn his position? What does this reveal about God?
  2. From Life Group Discussion: Why can we trust God when He calls?
  3. Yes, God can call us to big moves and changes. But He also calls us to be faithful with the little things now. What sort of “little things” should we be faithful with now? What things can we begin doing that we aren’t already?

Adults

Main Idea: Faith is obeying and following God no matter the circumstances that come with it. (Genesis 12)
