  1. How does Abraham's name show God's promise?
  2. How did Abraham and Sarai have to trust God?

Students

Main Idea: God will always keep His promises to us. (Genesis 15 & 17)

Summary
God promised Abraham that he would be the father of many nations (hence the name change). Though struggle and suffering would come to the people, God assured Abraham that he would never leave them. Through our struggles, we can also give these things to God, trusting and knowing He is always with us and always faithful.

Christ Connection
God credited Abraham with righteousness on account of his faith (Genesis 15:6). Therefore, all who have faith in God, who raised Jesus from the dead for our salvation, are declared righteous. They are also considered as Abraham's children so that he indeed would be the father of many nations (Romans 4:3).

Review Questions
  1. What makes it hard or easy to trust someone’s promise?
  2. How does God’s faithfulness warrant our trust in His promises?
  3. From the Bible, what sort of promises do we know God has made to us?
  4. From Life Group Discussion: Abraham was 75 years old when he left his home; here, he was 99. What does this teach you about the timing of God’s promises?

Adults

Main Idea: The almighty God makes it possible for humanity to be in relationship with Him. (Genesis 17)
