Series: Legacy Milestones
Sermon: Milestone 6: Own Your Faith

Scripture

Genesis 1:26-28 – Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, the whole earth, and the creatures that crawl on the earth. So God created man in his own image; he created him in the image of God; he created them male and female.”

Summary

Today we celebrated Milestone 6 of the Legacy Milestone path we walk with families. Milestone 6: Own Your Faith – Equipping your student to live with freedom and responsibility as a follower of Jesus.

In this Milestone, we focus on the biblical truth and unique roles of men and women, teaching them who a biblical man or a biblical woman is to be and who they are to become. We also teach them core doctrinal truth and a catechism of biblical questions and answers to lay a solid foundation of biblical truth. We also help them discover their spiritual gifts and place of service in the church.

Today, we focused on what it means to mature into a biblical man or woman. The world is relentlessly attacking our young men and women with a corrupt agenda and cultural lies, with false responsibility and fleshly responses.

Walking through Genesis, Pastor Brian made several observations:
  • God created two genders, male and female.
  • God created man and women equally and uniquely in His image to reflect biblical masculinity and femininity.
  • God created man and woman to rule over the earth together.
  • God created marriage to be between a man and a woman.
  • God is the creator of life in the womb, and we are to honor that life through childbearing.
  • Sexual intimacy is reserved for marriage.

Discussion

  1. Share what challenged or stood out to you most from the sermon today.
    • From the list of observations, is there one that impacts you the most?
  2. Discuss biblical masculinity and femininity.
    • What does this look like? How is this different from what the world teaches?
  3. Discuss what it means to mature into the man or woman God has created and designed you to be.
    • Are there any childish ways you need to leave behind as you move forward following Jesus?

Pray Together

Father, thank You for Your creation and Your design. We know You have created man and woman in Your image to equally but uniquely reflect Your image. I ask that You work in me to mature me into Your design. Show me where I am living as a child or in immaturity or in a worldly definition and expression of Your design. We commit to be who You have created us to be. We commit to mature in who we are in Christ, in the gifts You have given us, and in the stand we take for Your truth as we own our faith. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
