Sermon: God's Mission: Give Because of God's Work
Scripture
Acts 20:24 – But I consider my life of no value to myself; my purpose is to finish my course and the ministry I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of God’s grace.
Summary
We continued our series, The Gift of Giving. We were reminded that giving is not about money but about discipleship and being fully surrendered to Christ. Today, Pastor Brian looked at a passage where the Apostle Paul demonstrates what it is to be fully surrendered to God and His mission in the world. We then applied this to our view of money and our sacrificial giving to God’s mission.
We made four observations:
We made four observations:
- Giving to God’s mission requires putting God first in your life.
- Giving to God’s mission requires a surrendered life and the willingness to suffer.
- Giving to God’s mission requires you not to covet for more or covet others.
- Giving to God’s mission requires you to give rather than receive.
Discussion
- Share your understanding of how you manage your money is related to your surrender as a fully committed follower of Jesus.
- Discuss the four observations made in the sermon. Which one challenges you the most as a follower of Jesus? (God first, suffering, coveting, giving)
- Discuss one step you can take to better reflect the importance of God’s mission in the world with the financial resources He has given you.
Pray Together
Father, thank You for Your Word and the challenge to live with You first in every area of our lives, including our money and finances. I ask that You convict us of any fleshly sin or worldly desire that is keeping us from fully investing in the work of Your Kingdom and Your mission in the world. We confess and repent of comfort and coveting. We commit to You being first in our lives and being people who give as we receive. All this for our good and Your glory. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
