Sermon: Philip: Explain and Respond
Scripture
Acts 8:35 – Philip proceeded to tell him the good news about Jesus, beginning with that Scripture.
Summary
On Sunday, we continued our series, Modern-Day Evangelism. Pastor Brian’s sermon examined Philip's approach to evangelism in Acts 8, focusing on his Spirit-led encounter with the Ethiopian eunuch, a powerful model that God utilized then and can still apply today. Philip's example illustrates how believers can confidently share their faith by using Scripture to direct others to Jesus.
The passage illustrates three key elements of effective evangelism: being led by the Holy Spirit, using Scripture to explain who Jesus is, and inviting people to respond to the message of salvation. Through Philip's interaction with the eunuch, we see how God orchestrates divine appointments and how Scripture itself, particularly the prophecies about Jesus, can help others understand and respond to the gospel message.

Pray Together
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us Your Word and the amazing examples of people like Philip who show us how to share Your love with others. We ask for the Holy Spirit's guidance to recognize opportunities to share Jesus and the courage to "run to the chariot" when You call us. We commit to studying Your Word more deeply to better explain Your love and salvation to those around us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
OPTIONAL Family Activity
Gospel Scavenger Hunt
Create a "Gospel Scavenger Hunt" where family members work together to find Bible verses about Jesus (provide age-appropriate verses for younger children). After finding each verse, practice explaining it to each other in simple terms. Conclude by sharing which verse would be simplest to share with a friend and explain why. This encourages confidence in using Scripture while ensuring it remains enjoyable and engaging.
