Summary
  • When Moses was 120 years old, he told the Israelites that he could not go into the Promised Land.
  • Moses gave God’s laws to the priests and told the people to not disobey God’s commands.
  • Moses blessed the people and reminded them God would be with them.
  • Then Moses died, and Joshua became Israel’s leader.

Review Questions
  1. Why did Moses warn the people not to disobey God?
  2. How is Jesus greater than Moses?

Students

Main Idea: Believing God’s Word and obeying Him leads to life. (Deuteronomy 32)

Summary
Moses recorded his song and the law so God’s people could always remember God’s faithfulness to them, despite their frequent unfaithfulness. These were meaningful words of life for their faith and obedience. Yet the law was intended to point to Jesus, the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets (Matthew 5:17). He is the Word of life in whom we believe and whom we obey (1 John 1:1-3).

Review Questions
  1. In verses 15-18, Moses says the Israelites "grew fat" (meaning things were going well for them) and forgot about God. Why do you think people sometimes drift away from God when life is good?
  2. How does it make you feel knowing that God remains faithful to us even when we mess up?

Adults

Main Idea: God’s people must never forget or ignore God’s words of life. (Deuteronomy 32)

Summary
In Deuteronomy 32's "Song of Moses," Moses delivers his final poetic discourse to Israel, recounting God's faithfulness and sovereignty while contrasting it with Israel's persistent rebellion and ingratitude. The text employs rich metaphors - comparing God to both an eagle nurturing its young and a Rock of stability - while prophetically warning of Israel's future apostasy and the severe consequences that will follow their unfaithfulness. The chapter concludes with God's ultimate promise of vindication for His people and judgment on their enemies, followed by His command to Moses to ascend Mount Nebo, where he will see the Promised Land before his death - a bittersweet consequence of his own disobedience at Meribah.

Review Questions
  1. The theme of remembrance runs strongly through this passage, with Moses emphasizing how Israel "forgot the Rock who bore you" (v.18). In what ways do you see modern believers struggling with similar spiritual amnesia, and what practical disciplines might help us maintain a proper perspective of God's work in our lives?
  2. How can remembering God’s past faithfulness bring comfort in troubling times now?
