Sermon: The Triumphal Entry
Scripture
John 12:12-15 – The next day, when the large crowd that had come to the festival heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, they took palm branches and went out to meet him. They kept shouting: “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord —the King of Israel!” Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written: Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion. Look, your King is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt.
Summary
This sermon explores how Jesus fulfilled the prophetic timeline of Jewish spring festivals during His final week, revealing His identity as both King and sacrificial Lamb. The Triumphal Entry on Palm Sunday coincided precisely with Lamb Selection Day (Nisan 10), when Jewish families chose their perfect Passover lambs—Jesus was presenting Himself as "the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." As crowds waved palm branches and shouted "Hosanna" (save us), they were fulfilling Zechariah's prophecy of their King arriving on a donkey.
The remarkable timing continues throughout the week: Jesus' crucifixion on Passover, His burial during Unleavened Bread, His resurrection on Firstfruits, and later, the sending of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost—all perfectly aligning with the festival calendar established centuries earlier. These divine appointments reveal Jesus as the fulfillment of God's redemptive plan and challenge us to order our lives around "the most sacred moments in the history of the world."

Main Points:
- Jesus entered Jerusalem on Lamb Selection Day, presenting Himself as the perfect sacrifice.
- The palm branches and "Hosanna" shouts fulfilled prophecies about the Messiah-King.
- Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection perfectly aligned with Passover, Unleavened Bread, and Firstfruits.
- The timing of these events was not coincidental but divinely orchestrated
- We are called to respond to Jesus as both sacrificial Lamb and rightful King.

- In what ways might you be like the crowd—celebrating Jesus as King but not fully understanding His mission as sacrificial Lamb?
- The sermon mentions that leaven represents sin that becomes "an inseparable part" of us. How have you experienced the pervasive nature of sin, and how does Christ's sinless sacrifice address this?
Homes with Students
- Jesus fulfilled prophecies written hundreds of years before His birth. How does this strengthen your confidence in the Bible and in Jesus' identity?

Pray Together
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your perfect plan of redemption revealed through the festivals and fulfilled in Jesus. We are amazed at Your attention to every detail and how You orchestrated history to demonstrate Jesus is truly the promised Messiah and King. We ask for a deeper understanding of these sacred truths and for hearts that respond in genuine worship, not just on Palm Sunday but every day. Help us to see Jesus as both our sacrificial Lamb who takes away our sins and our rightful King who deserves our complete allegiance. We commit to ordering our lives around these sacred truths, living as people who have been redeemed by the Lamb, and who now follow the one true King. In Jesus' name, Amen.
