Summary

There is a sharp contrast from Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem to the betrayal, denial, shame, and suffering seen in His final hours leading up to the cross. After raising Lazarus from the dead, many had heard of Jesus and formed opinions about Him. Though many had questions, two polarized viewpoints emerged from the excitement: those who believed Him to be the Messiah and those who felt threatened and wanted Him crucified. When Jesus entered Jerusalem, He was honored, revered, and acknowledged as Savior, Hosanna. Yet, the religious leaders, and others, refused to soften their hearts and see Jesus for who He really is – Messiah, Son of God, Son of Man, King of Kings.

Application

As we reflect and meditate on these passages today, consider your response carefully to the question Jesus asked His disciples in Matthew 16:15, “Who do you say that I am?” Consider also whether your actions support your belief/response or not. Let’s consider different areas of our lives, different people groups, as well as our daily habits. If Jesus responded to your answer with, “Show me,” would it make a difference or change any patterns in your daily living? Would it change your relationships or how you spend your time or money? Would your priorities shift?

Questions to Consider

  1. What sin does this passage lead us to confess?
  2. How does this passage challenge us to repent and follow Jesus?
  3. Share one way you can grow in your faith and trust Jesus more.

Prayer

Gracious and merciful Father, thank You for Your Word. Thank You for Your steadfast, redeeming, transforming love that endures forever. Thank You for meeting us where we are. For sending Your Son to pay the penalty for our sins so we may have an eternal relationship with You. Lord, we adore and worship You. Help us remember who You are so that we may understand who we are in Christ. Help us to live out our faith boldly and to love fiercely. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
