Sermon: The Glory of the Immortal God
Scripture
Romans 1:18 – For God’s wrath is revealed from heaven against all godlessness and unrighteousness of people who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.
Summary
In this continuing sermon from the Romans series on "The Righteousness of God," Pastor Brian addresses God's wrath against sin as revealed in Romans 1:18-32. The passage explains that before we can understand salvation by grace through faith alone in Christ alone, we must first recognize our inherent sinfulness and inability to achieve God's righteousness through our own efforts.
The Apostle Paul identifies three reasons for God's wrath: suppressing God's truth through unrighteous living, ignoring God's revelation of Himself in creation, and perverting God's glory by worshiping created things rather than the Creator. The sermon describes how God "delivers over" those who reject Him to three progressive consequences: sexual impurity outside of marriage, disgraceful passions contrary to God’s natural design, and ultimately a corrupt mind filled with all kinds of unrighteousness.
The message challenges believers to examine whether their lives reflect "the glory of the immortal God" or merely "the passions of mortal man."

Main Points:
- All humans naturally fall short of God's righteousness and need salvation
- Creation provides sufficient evidence of God's existence, leaving people "without excuse"
- Rejecting God leads to progressive moral and spiritual deterioration
- Sexual sin (including homosexuality) represents exchanging God's truth for a lie
- A mind emptied of God naturally fills with unrighteousness
- Believers must daily fill their minds with God's Word to combat unrighteousness

Pray Together
Heavenly Father, thank You for creating a world that points to Your existence and for giving us Your Word that clearly shows us how to live righteously. We confess that we often suppress Your truth, ignore Your presence, and worship created things instead of You. We ask for Your forgiveness through Jesus Christ and for the power of Your Holy Spirit to transform our minds and hearts. Help us to recognize the areas where we've become insensitive to sin in our lives and give us courage to turn away from unrighteousness. We commit to starting each day by filling our minds with Your truth so that our lives will reflect the glory of the immortal God rather than the passing passions of mortal man. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Family Activity
Create a "Glory Jar" Together
Decorate a clear jar with the words "God's Glory" on it. Cut small slips of colorful paper and place them near the jar with pens or markers. Throughout the week, have family members write or draw things they notice in creation that show God's existence and glory (sunsets, animals, stars, the human body, etc.) and place them in the jar. Also include ways they've seen family members reflect God's character (kindness, patience, forgiveness, etc.).
At the end of the week, empty the jar together and read each slip, thanking God for both His amazing creation and His work in your family.
This activity helps children focus on God's revelation in nature and understand how our lives can reflect His glory rather than worldly values.
